The Lord’s hand was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord. Acts 11:21
Let me ask you a question. Do you ever ponder that our lives as followers of Jesus are playing into a larger story from the Master Storyteller? What if each of us is living into a larger story about the Peninsula, the Gospel, and PCC?
First the Peninsula: For 65 years, the Peninsula has been PCC’s home. It’s also been our purpose. From the start, our 22 founders in that Burlingame living room had a vision for people on the Peninsula to know Jesus. Our vision was never to build a great church, but to join Jesus in building a great Peninsula.
The Gospel does that. The Gospel changes people forever, bringing them into a relationship with Almighty God. However, the Gospel does have earthly benefits. The Gospel advances the common good, upgrades culture, and unleashes mercy, justice, and compassion. It makes workplaces more humane and more hopeful. It makes race relations healthier. The Gospel changes lives and culture … the Gospel changes everything.
Then there’s us, the community of followers of Jesus who call PCC home. Each one of us is a culture maker. How we communicate, how we recreate, how we relate, how we do our work … that creates culture.
What’s this all add up to? It adds up to one big possibility. If a critical mass of people on this Peninsula lived their lives for Christ, created Christ-centered culture in ways that express the Gospel – mercy, justice, friendship, and hope – it would change the fabric of the Peninsula! It might even change the world.
A new chapter at PCC begins now! We are embarking on our 10-year vision to see the body of Christ on the Peninsula rise from 3% to 10%. That means more than tripling by 2025. We know this is audacious; we know we can’t do this alone; we know it will be an ambitious journey like none other we have taken as a church. The stakes are high, but so are the benefits. We think that 10% might just be the tipping point.
This tipping point of Gospel saturation will do more than populate heaven – it will help the whole city flourish. 10% won’t come about by building a bigger PCC! We need new churches launched, unity amongst churches like never before, robust disciples of Jesus living for Jesus 24/7, new leaders developed, and new kingdom expressions rising in every neighborhood across this city.
And we need PCC’ers to step up and say “I’m in and will be a stakeholder in this vision.” You are the culture maker, the neighbor, the co-worker, the artist – you are the Gospel carrier. Our defining moment is now! If you have not done so, please sign up for a vision dessert as the next step in hearing and responding to the vision. We’re so excited to embark on this journey together.
This Sunday we start a verse-by-verse journey through the book of Galatians in a new series called Be Free! I am looking forward to this study as we amplify the blessings and freedom that comes from the Gospel.
I love being your pastor!
