We all want to be accepted—by our family, by our friends, and most of all by God. But so often we feel like people accept us only if we are smart, wealthy, attractive, powerful or — fill in the blank. So we work hard to project the right image and conceal our faults.
We often transfer this attitude to our relationship with God. We feel we must earn His acceptance. If we could only work harder, live better, pray longer, witness to more people, then we might get on God’s “good side.”
In his letter to the Galatians, Paul challenges this kind of thinking. He exposes the futility of trying to earn God’s acceptance – because the reality is that we’re already accepted in Christ. The Gospel frees us from living out of a sense of guilt and instead living into the freedom of being a beloved child of God. We find fresh assurance of God’s love and renewed power to serve Him.
Galatians has been called by many the Magna Carta of Christianity. In its six short chapters is an explosion of joy and freedom that speaks deep significance, acceptance, and satisfaction — the life of blessing God calls His children into. It’s a life where we can truly BE FREE to be exactly who we were created to be!
