“Don’t be afraid!” the angel said. “I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!  Luke 2:10-11

Good Afternoon PCC!

‘Tis the season! The season for followers of Jesus to live in wonder, awe, and hope that God came to earth to rescue us. However, it seems that this season is increasingly co-opted for Christ-followers and Christmas has become a season for stress

Stress from impacted schedules, calorie-packed Christmas meals (and cookies!), minor home refurbishing with Christmas decor, and debt-inducing shopping lists!

Since when did Christmas get so complicated?

This Christmas season at PCC we’re endeavoring to help us all consider that the weight we feel this time of year comes from things that God never asked us to carry, and His solution is simple: Let go of all that and come back to the wonder of a simple Christmas truth: A Savior come to earth to restore broken people.

In the coming weeks, we will walk in the Gospels with people who encountered Jesus, and discover what they had to let go of in order to embrace Christ. You know this, but I want to reiterate for us all: WE CAN’T HAVE IT ALL!

What do you need to let go of in the coming weeks to prioritize Jesus? I want to suggest three valuable commodities:

  • Let go of your resources! For the last two weeks we have been informing the body of our Year End G4 Giving Challenge. PCC’s history has always been a story of contagious generosity and for the last two weeks, we have literally watched how through PCC, people as close as the Maple Street Shelter in Redwood City are fed and people as far as the unreached Toposa tribe in sub-saharan Africa have been introduced to the Gospel of Jesus and been baptized. We are asking for a supernatural year-end push to keep fueling the ministry of PCC locally and around the world. Would you please pray about joining us with a special year end gift?
  • Let go of your time! For Christmas we are encouraging PCC’ers to celebrate Advent at home.  Last week, PCC Family Ministries introduced two downloadable resources to do this. Why not set aside time and make Advent real on a day-to-day basis?
  • Let go of your reputation! I have a stack of Christmas Eve invites with me trusting that God has divine appointments in store for me every day, where I can invite people to one of our Christmas Eve Services. My days literally become a treasure hunt where I come across those God-designed encounters. You can pick up invites this Sunday at one of our Gatherings. Why not join me in inviting your neighbors, merchants, family, and friends to Christmas Eve?

I have a feeling that through prioritizing Jesus and letting go, God will enable us to walk by faith and recapture the wonder and awe of Jesus coming to earth. That, my friends, is much more significant than anything that will show up under my tree this year!

This week, we will look at letting go of distractions. If you want to read ahead, hang out in Luke 10:38-42. And a quick note: We have typically held a Stakeholder Meeting (Congregational Meeting) in early December. This year, with our Town Hall Meeting just last month, our Winter Stakeholder Meeting will be held in early 2020. Stay tuned for the date!

It’s going to be a great Sunday at PCC!

I love being your pastor!
